Notice of Project Completion: Hilton Falls Diversion Structure Upgrade Project

Posted by on

In 2015, Conservation Halton initiated the Conservation Ontario (CO) Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) for Remedial Flood and Erosion Control Projects related to the Hilton Falls Diversion Dyke potential overtopping during extreme flood events. The Class EA identified and evaluated several remedial alternatives to resolve the potential overtopping issue during these extreme flood events. The preferred alternative was to raise the existing dyke crest to contain the flows in the adjacent as it was the option that best resolved the issue while minimizing unintended impacts.

In 2017, Conservation Halton proceeded with the detailed design and associated construction documents based on the preferred alternative. The detailed design and associated construction documents were completed in 2018, at which point Conservation Halton executed the construction program in two phases over two years to comply with the associated timing windows identified during the Class EA.

In 2021, Conservation Halton completed the second, and final, phase of the project. This project has been completed in accordance with the Class Environmental Assessment for Remedial Flood and Erosion Control Projects, approved under the Environmental Assessment Act for projects of this type. All monitoring program commitments have been met for the approved project.
