Ways of the Woods

Update: June 3, 2020

When we said “goodbye” in the summer of 2019, we did so with excitement for the summer of 2020, and the new friends, laughs, experiences and memories that it would bring. We could not have imagined that the world would change so much in just eight months.

As we are sure you can understand, providing a summer camp program, at the moment, is going to be a challenge. From busing to staffing, from working with equipment vendors to managing large groups of campers, there is so much that goes into a camp like Ways of the Woods. The team here at Ways of the Woods has been working, tirelessly, to keep up with constant change, figure out what these restrictions mean for our programs and trying to figure out a way to offer our programs under these conditions.

We have considered every option imaginable, but the unfortunate reality is that summer camp, in the usual format, is just not possible at this time, so Ways of the Woods will not be happening for the summer of 2020… at least, not in the way we are all used to. We know that Ways of the Woods means so much to so many people but the health and safety of our staff, campers, their families and our community is our top priority.

That being said, the Ways of the Woods team isn’t just throwing in the towel. We are currently working on program options that will offer summer camp-like experiences in a way that allows us to better manage social interaction and safe use of facilities and equipment. These won’t be the exact same as the camp programs that you know and love but they will help to get your kids outside, keeps your kids active and give you a break at home.

So, what happens to your camp registration? You have a few options.

  1. You can donate your registration fee, either in full or in part, to the Conservation Halton Foundation, so that it can be used for future education and restoration programs, and receive a tax receipt.
  2. You can receive a credit in the form of a gift card that can be used for anything at the Conservation Halton Parks. (This credit does not expire.)
  3. You can receive a refund in the form of payment that you used to make your reservation.

Whatever option you choose, please understand it will take us some time to process. If you would like a refund, you don’t need to do anything—you will receive it automatically. If you would like to a credit or to make a donation, please send an email to registration@waysofthewoods.ca and provide the name of your camper and the option that you would like.

We know this is not happy news for our campers and their families to receive, but we do look forward to seeing you at the parks for our new program options this summer, even if things are not quite the same. Until then, we hope that you will stay safe, healthy and active. (In case you haven’t heard, the Conservation Halton Parks are now open, by reservation only. You can find more information here and make your reservation here.) Ways of the Woods is going to be back (and better than ever) in 2021, but until then, we hope you will join us for the new program options at the parks this summer.
